Saudi Aramco is continuing to advance its Jafurah unconventional gas development, one of the key projects in the Kingdom’s strategy to expand natural gas production. In an October 2026 report, Upstream indicated that Aramco was nearing a major contract award associated with the wider development, which has an estimated lifecycle investment exceeding $100 billion.
The project has already reached important milestones. Aramco announced in February 2026 that production at Jafurah had started in December 2025. The company aims to achieve a sales gas production rate of 2 billion standard cubic feet per day by 2030, alongside substantial output of ethane and other liquids.
As development progresses, gas processing facilities and supporting infrastructure will remain important parts of the wider supply chain. These projects require coordination among engineering contractors, equipment manufacturers, material suppliers and construction teams.
Large gas developments require a range of facilities for gas treatment, separation, compression and associated processing. Depending on the process configuration, equipment packages may include pressure vessels, separators, columns, heat exchangers and other specialized components.
The material requirements for these components vary with operating pressure, temperature, gas composition and exposure to corrosive substances. Selecting materials therefore requires coordination between the equipment design, applicable codes and the project's technical specifications.
For equipment manufacturers and procurement teams, several considerations are particularly relevant:
Material selection: Carbon steel, stainless steel, duplex stainless steel and nickel alloys may serve different applications depending on the specified operating conditions.
Corrosion resistance: Material grades and corrosion allowances must be established according to the actual process environment and design requirements.
Fabrication and machining: Plate dimensions, forming allowances, weld preparation and finished-component tolerances should be considered during manufacturing planning.
Quality assurance: Material traceability, inspection, testing and documentation must meet the purchase order and project specifications.
Delivery coordination: Material supply and machining schedules need to align with equipment fabrication and overall project milestones.
These requirements are determined by the individual equipment package; they should not be assumed to be identical across the entire Jafurah development.
For selected pressure vessels and heat exchangers, clad plates can combine a structural base metal with a metallurgically bonded corrosion-resistant alloy layer.
Depending on the design and service conditions, possible combinations include carbon steel or alloy steel with stainless steel, duplex stainless steel or nickel-alloy cladding. This construction can provide a cost-conscious alternative to solid high-alloy material where the design permits and the required performance has been demonstrated.
Clad plate is not suitable for every gas processing application. The decision depends on process conditions, the applicable material specification, fabrication requirements, bonding quality and purchaser approval.
When evaluating a clad plate supplier, buyers should look beyond the material grade and nominal dimensions. Manufacturing capability, inspection documentation, traceability and the ability to coordinate plate production with downstream machining can also influence procurement and fabrication planning.
FUGO TECH manufactures clad plates and special-alloy plates and provides machining for industrial equipment components, including tube sheets, baffle plates and dish heads.
These products may be relevant to pressure vessel and heat exchanger manufacturers when clad or special-alloy materials are specified for their equipment. FUGO TECH's manufacturing and machining scope allows customers to discuss material supply and component processing within one supply chain.
For projects involving gas processing equipment, the appropriate material combination, inspection scope and documentation requirements should be confirmed against the equipment drawings and project specifications before ordering.
