On September 15, 2025, TotalEnergies, in partnership with Basra Oil Company and QatarEnergy, commenced the final phase of Iraq's Gas Growth Integrated Project (GGIP). This multi-energy initiative aims to enhance Iraq's energy infrastructure through the development of oil, gas, solar, and water resources.
The GGIP encompasses four key components:
Ratawi Oil Field Redevelopment: The full-field development of the Ratawi oil field aims to increase production to 210,000 barrels per day (bpd) by 2028, with zero routine flaring.
Gas Recovery and Power Generation: The project includes the construction of a gas treatment facility with a capacity of 600 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) to capture flared gas from three oil fields, supplying power plants and reducing emissions.
Solar Energy Development: A 1.25-gigawatt peak (GWp) solar photovoltaic plant will be developed in phases between 2025 and 2027, providing electricity to approximately 350,000 homes in the Basra region.
Seawater Treatment and Supply: The Common Seawater Supply Project (CSSP) involves the construction of a facility to deliver 5 million barrels per day of treated seawater to oil fields in southern Iraq, supporting water injection and reducing reliance on freshwater resources.
The GGIP is a $27 billion initiative aimed at improving Iraq's energy independence and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The project is a collaboration between TotalEnergies (45% operator), Basra Oil Company (30%), and QatarEnergy (25%).
In the development of the GGIP, clad plates could be utilized in various applications to enhance the durability and efficiency of equipment:
Heat Exchangers: Clad plates can provide excellent resistance to corrosion and high temperatures, making them ideal for heat exchangers used in crude oil processing.
Pressure Vessels: The combination of materials in clad plates offers strength and resistance to aggressive chemicals, suitable for pressure vessels in oil refining processes.
Piping Systems: Clad plates can be used in piping systems to transport corrosive fluids, reducing maintenance costs and extending service life.
The application of clad plates in these areas can contribute to the efficiency and longevity of operations in the GGIP development.
